Writing Competitions and Opportunities

As a new initiative we intend to offer on this page a list of writing competitions and other writing opportunities which Weegie Wednesday members may wish to avail themselves of.

Any members who know of such opportunities and feel that they should be included in our list please email details to Hugh Reid.

  1. Almond Press Curated List of Creative Writing Competitions, Contests and Awards for 2017.
  2. For all you children's writers, unpublished and unheard, Undiscovered Voices is a fantastic opportunity, open from 1st July until 15th August 2017.
  3. New Writing Scotland is now open for submissions until 30 September 2017.
  4. For you Science Fiction writers Writing for the Future run what is probably the World's Largest Health Science Fiction Short Story prize. First prize is £10,000!
  5. Closing 18th September 2017 Myslexia's Women's Novel Competition for unpublished women writers. As well as the top prize of £5,000, the winner and four finalists will receive manuscript feedback, and introductions to agents and editors, at a special event held in London.
  6. Big Finish is running a Doctor Who audio short story competition. Note: classic Who only, no pre-established monsters [so no Daleks, Cybermen], up to 5000 words, text designed to be read and recorded. This opportunity is active from 8th May 2017, and closed at 23:59 on June 30th 2017.
  7. And here are the details for the Scottish Book Trust's New Writers Awards 2018. Not a competition; an award.
