John Dickson
I'm John Dickson
I've been writing for about 6
years when I was encouraged to join Strathkelvin Writers' Group by the late Margaret Thomson Davies.
I decided to write down the stories I've told over the years of daft or exciting episodes in my now longish life. David McVey suggested I send a couple into the Scots Magazine. The first story I submitted was accepted within 2 days! I was so chuffed! A humourous
drama about a camping trip in my teens in the Campsie Fells in the sixties. It was their lead story a couple of months later. The Scots Magazine went on to publish a number of stories. The then editor, Phil Smith, encouraged me to write a book about my exploits, which I've now completed. 'Hopes and Dreams and Buster too' was published by Creativia/Next Chapter in 2019. It's been doing quite well and I've had some very complimentary reviews.

I've also recently had a some quirky travel articles published in
the Herald Scotland Saturday Magazine.
I live with my wife Mary and we're now retired from our last business, a post office and card & gift shop.
Our son, Stephen is married and given us two smashing grandsons. While our daughter Kathleen just recently moved into her first flat turning us into empty nesters.
