We start back to the autumn meetings with a short talk by Ron Grosset, publisher, and founder of Waverley Books and Geddes & Grosset, on the author-publisher relationship. Meeting starts at 7.30pm with the short talk at 7.45pm and networking before and after.
Biography:
Ron Grosset has 40 years of experience in book publishing and production and is described by the Trade Organisation – Publishing Scotland, as a Veteran in the business.
After University in Edinburgh he worked for Wm Collins, Glasgow, in publishing and manufacturing divisions working in Scotland, and Europe and the USA. In 1988 he formed Geddes and Grosset. Geddes and Grosset specialise in mass market reference and children's books, and the Waverley Books imprint publishes books of Scottish-interest.
The graphic novel Kidnapped by Cam Kennedy and Alan Grant was published by Waverley books in February 2007 and Waverley still hold the record for the fastest ever selling book in Scotland – Maw Broons’ Cookbook; The Broons’ Gairdenin’ Book; Maw Broon’s But ‘An Ben Cookbook; Maw Broon’s Remedies - the bestselling Complete Book Of Mince, by Rene Lasagne, and The Art & History of The Dandy and The History of The Beano.
Waverley publish the classic Glasgow Cookery Book, and continue to champion books with a Scottish connection.
Ron has been a consultant to paper mills and print groups as both a paper designer and as a production buyer in Europe and Asia and generally bores people to death lecturing on related subjects in the UK and overseas.
Ron has served multiple sentences as a Board Member of Publishing Scotland – has represented Publishing Scotland at Bookfairs overseas, has chaired the Training Committee of Publishing Scotland (formerly the Scottish Publishers Association). He was a Trustee of Edinburgh UNESCO City Of Literature and a Literature Advisor to The Arts Council.
He remains passionate about providing value English language learning books for Africa and Asia and has recently formed an alliance with The British Council to promote English Language Learning wherever The British Council are active.
Since 1988, Geddes & Grosset have sold over 75,000,000 books in more than 100 countries.Ron is now co-owner of The Gresham Publishing Company, with Liz Small – operating as an independent publisher, proudly based in Glasgow, and in 2016, Waverley launched a high-end Stationery brand – Waverley Scotland – which is making sales across the world.
