Our conference theme is the Ikigai, a Japanese concept that means ‘a reason for being’ and is similar to the French phrase ‘raison d'être’. Lucinda Byatt
I’ve been a translator from Italian to English
for upwards of twenty years. Many of the books I’ve translated have been
related to cultural history. This is the other hat I wear. As a
historian, I teach a number of courses at Edinburgh University, mostly
relating to Italian social and cultural history between 1400 and 1600,
and it is in this field that I do my own writing. I’m a member of the
Translators Association, a group within the Society of Authors, and I’ve
been secretary to the Society of Authors in Scotland since 2015.
Linda Strachan
Linda
Strachan is an award winning children's author and Chair of the Society
of Authors in Scotland. Author of over 60 books, Linda writes for all
ages from gritty crime novels for young adults to picture books
including the bestselling Hamish McHaggis series and a writing handbook,
Writing for Children. She has also written for educational publishers
and her books are used in schools all over the world. Linda has run
creative writing workshops for adults and children in the UK and abroad
and is currently Patron of Reading to Liberton High School in Edinburgh.
